Treatment

Treatment of ovarian cancer conventionally includes a combination of chemotherapy and surgery.

Debulking Surgery
A debulking surgery comprising hysterectomy/bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) has shown better outcomes .The aim of surgery is to confirm the diagnosis,biopsy, define the extent of disease (stage)or resect all visible tumor (therapeutic).

Conservative surgery can be done if future fertility is desired in Stage 1A but when no fertility desire perform TAH plus contralateral oophorectomy.

Chemotherapy
Except for stage 1A all pts should be treated with chemotherapy after surgery. Standard postoperative chemotherapy is combination therapy with a platinum compound and a taxane (eg, carboplatin/cisplatin and paclitaxel). Other Drugs include Bleomycin, etoposide, vincristine, actinomycin D and cyclophosphamide.
