Etiology

The etiology of ovarian cancer is not well understood. Though two main hypotheses were proposed:
Incessant ovulation :Repeated ovulation results in minor trauma to the ovarian epithelium, which in turn can lead to malignant transformation.
Exposure to gonadotropins: Persistent ovarian exposure to gonadotropins and elevated estradiol concentrations may be carcinogenic.
