Clinical features

A small, non-infected Bartholin’s cyst may not be noticeable unless it grows. If the cyst becomes infected can present with the following features:

Discomfort in walking or sitting

Fever

Significant enlargement during sexual intercourse because of more fluid accumulation.

Dyspareunia as a result of lack of lubrication from the obstructed duct.

Vaginal discharges may be present as a sign of underlying sexually transmitted disease.

Sudden relief of symptoms in case of spontaneous rupture.

On local examination,
Bartholin Cyst-Cystic, fluctuant and non-tender seen from the posterior aspect of the labia majora, although a large cyst can expand anteriorly.
Bartholin’s abscess – typically tender, tense and hard, with surrounding cellulitis.
