Treatment

Urethral dilation

Recommended in short, first-time, bulbar urethral strictures. It works by stretching the scar without producing additional scarring. It may be curative in patients with isolated epithelial strictures (without involvement of corpus spongiosum). The success rate decreases with each subsequent dilation.

Internal urethrotomy

It involves transurethral incision of the scar tissue by using endoscopic technique.

Permanent urethral stents

Stents are incorporated into the wall of the urethra and provide a patent lumen. They are most successful in short-length strictures in the bulbous urethra.
