Pathophysiology

BPH arises when Prostatic cellular proliferation overweighs programmed cell death (apoptosis) . This condition originates from the transitional zone of the prostate at which numbers of prostatic peri urethral epithelial and stromal cells increase beyond their normal rate and amount. These changes are influenced by the direct hormonal effects of testosterone on prostate tissue.
