Investigations

Obstetric Ultra sound to asses fetal wellbeing and amniotic fluid index. A normal amniotic fluid index is 5 cm to 25 cm . Less than 5 cm is considered oligohydramnios, and greater than 25 cm is considered polyhydramnios.

Fluid pH by litmus or Nitrazine paper (litmus paper test), in which Nitrazine paper turns from yellow to blue.

Fern test, amniotic fluid will display a characteristic ferning pattern when a smeared slide is examined under microscope.

Full blood picture to rule out infection.
