Severe Malaria

Artesunate 2.4 mg/kg in body weight. IV or IM given on admission (time = 0 hour), then at 12 hrs and 24 hrs for a minimum of 3 injections in 24 hrs regadless of pts recovery.

A complete course of ALU for 3 days follows 8 hours after the last dose of IV artesunate.

Uncomplicated Malaria

Artemether-Lumefantrine is the drug of choice in all trimesters, given as 4 tabs per dose at 0hrs,8hrs,24hrs,36hrs,48hrs,60hrs.
