Pathophysiology

This condition results from abnormal placentation as a result of weak implantation which causes impaired maternal placental blood flow. This causes ischaemic changes on placental tissue which then results into release of inflammatory mediators that lead into a systemic vasoconstriction causing increase in peripheral vascular resistance and hence hypertension.
