Analgesics
Topical Steroids for inflammation to subside and prevention of corneal scarring. Prednisolone eye 1 to 2 drops 2hourly
Atropine 1%, 1 – 2 drops stat to reduce reaction of the injured eye to light and hence reducing symptoms of photosensitivity.
Chloramphenicol eye ointment 1%, 8 hourly to the injured eye until no fluorescein staining. This will prevent chances for infection through out the healing process.
In case of foreign body, it must be removed.
In cases of severe destruction of the cornea, cornea transplantation can be put into consideration.
For chemical injuries, Irrigate the eye with clean water or Ringers lactate continually for a minimum of 20 – 30 minutes to reduce chemical substances and irrigate longer for severe alkali burn.
