Global prevalence of diabetic retinopathy among persons with diabetes is 22.27%, while the prevalence of sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy is 6.17%. Africa was found to have the highest prevalence of diabetic retinopathy, at 35.90% of individuals with diabetes, with the prevalence also being among the highest in North America and the Caribbean, at 33.30%.
