Cornea is made up of five layers as per the description below:
Epithelium , the outermost layer covered with tear film. It absorbs nutrients from tear film and supply the rest of the cornea.
Bowman’s layer, the second layer from epithelium, it maintains the dome shape of the cornea.
Stroma, the thickest layer of cornea. It gives cornea its thickness.
Descemet’s membrane, a strong but thin layer of the cornea and functions as a barrier against eye injuries and infection.
Endothelium, is the innermost layer filtering out of stroma excess fluid.
