Treatment

Surgical debridement. Incision should be extended distally and proximally along long axis of the extremity for proper exposure of the fracture site.

Irrigation. At least 3L of Normal Saline are used for each successive Gustilo type (i.e 3L for type I, 6L for type II and 9L for type III)

Antibiotics. IV Ceftriaxone for type I and II while IV Ceftriaxone and Gentamycin for type III.

Open reduction and internal fixation for Gustilo type I and II

External fixation for Gustilo type III
