Fascial compartment

It is a section within the body that contains muscles, nerves and blood vessels all surrounded by deep fascia. For example there are three compartments of the leg: Anterior, lateral and posterior as illustrated below.

Compartment syndrome

It is an increase in pressure within a closed fascial compartment resulting into impaired local circulation leading into ischemia and eventually, necrosis.
