Types

Trapped or incarcerated placenta
It is a total separation of the placenta from the uterine wall but it is not expelled out of the uterine cavity.

Simple adhesion(Placenta adherens)

It is an adhesion of placenta on the uterine wall in which manual separation can be done easily.

Morbid adhesion

In this condition placenta is implanted deep into the uterine wall. It occurs in the following forms:

Placenta accreta: It is a morbid placenta adhesion in which chorionic villi penetrate the full thickness of endometrium.

Placenta increta: It is a morbid placenta adhesion in which chorionic villi penetrate deep into myometrium..

Placenta percreta: It is a morbid placenta adhesion in which chorionic villi penetrate the entire thickness of the uterine wall even involving invasion of adjacent organs such as bladder and rectum .
