Acute (Intrapartum) fetal distress

It occurs suddenly due to acute maternal, fetal or placental events.

Chronic (Antepartum) fetal distress

It occurs slowly usually due to chronic maternal or fetal conditions that lead to placental insufficiency and fetal growth restriction.
